• What Makes a Fantastic Accountant?

    Xero Accountant
    1. Financial Wiz

It is insufficient to only read numbers. Your accountant should be able to sit back on your first visit, flit through your balance sheet and give you an immediate and exact reading of the state of your business. If on first visit they can't do this, grab your hat and make for the door! You desire honest and direct advice and an amazing cpa can nearly feel numbers and company well-being. They could do it well and they can do it forthwith.
    2. Big and Small Picture Thinker

    Xero Hamilton
That is vital. A good accountant understands the detail of your financial statements. This is what all accountants are trained to do. But a great cpa moves beyond conceptualises and publication reconciliation and comprehends the global or structural strengths and weaknesses of your financial situation. They see and develop excellent results for the company and give you a roadmap of advice on how to get there.
    3. Have They Grown Their Own Business?

What's the state in their own company? Is it in good shape? This doesn't mean what it does mean is they have an excellent running company or company that is thriving and healthy, although they've created a corporation. Have they taken hazards? Are they proactive and progressive? Are they in step with the times? Do they use modern technologies? These are good indexes. Choose note if this is happening and when it is, you might be in the appropriate place. If not, find a beanie who's doing exactly that!
    4. Good Communication

Does your accountant stick to account - speak or do they follow best practise clear English included in their communications policy with customers? Are communications strained and laboured or simplified so there is mutual understanding and clarity? You have let us know this is certainly one of the single most important qualities to you. Clients tell us they desire great, simple, smart help. They don't desire to learn about academic theories on the development of tax laws in NZ over the previous thirty years!
    5. What Kind of Team Does Your Accountant Have?

An excellent accountant isn't frightened to fire team players who are not performing for you, the customer. A fantastic accountant will keep looking for key team players who contribute to an excellent job. They go beyond and above to source team members who deliver not just a set of financials, but quality financials that maximise your return and ethically without cutting corners. There isn't any sloppy at Slaters. It is about a great team. From Tina (our simply amazing front of house reception individual) through to Harsha, (the leader of our Financials Team) and Beth and Shareena. Great staff - longstanding members over many years - great people that work well together for the team and client.
    6. Understands a Great Business Model.

It's not about some financials. An excellent cpa gives you the capacity to develop an extremely great, complete business model over many years. We're proud to say we have clients who have been with us 25 years and some of these have now been challenged to grow and prosper their businesses even when it is been distressing! Those who have stuck with our huge picture strategies reap the benefits. If your accountant doesn't help you develop a healthy, longterm business model, have a think about moving on.
    7.

Up front payments and clear costs? And we don't mean "bundling bundles." We decided against these some years ago in favour of greater transparency. A clear, fixed price that you can pay off or pay in one fell swoop. (Bundling is a monthly payment that can eek away in the background without you ever fully accessing the complete deal. It is a confusion for customers because they are locked in to their package and can not ever really get anything without paying additional dollars. We don't do that. Not transparent enough for Slaters and we have seen it eventuate into relationship dislocation between partner and client.) Simple to make an appointment? Are there annoying and hourly rates that are sneaky hidden somewhere in the fine print? An excellent cpa is fully transparent about costs and is also quite accessible. They are not difficult to speak with and return to you immediately via email, phone calls or free meetings. At Slaters you can even pop in and catch Brad and Brett for no additional cost, on the hop. That is ease!
    8. Trustworthy

This can be a biggie. Customers have reported that they're actually more comfortable having an accountant who is NOT out and about at every social function and assembly. You've told us a brilliant cpa isn't boozing it up at the bar and letting loose with your private financial issues. There's a code of ethics to adhere to, and this also needs to be taken very, very seriously. An excellent cpa understands they are working with their families and honours and the financial heart and soul in their customers that information so.

These are just a couple of the crucial components you must look for when sourcing a great accountant. We hope it helps you. And remember, if you are looking to shift beanies or locate one that can actually help you, do not hesitate to e-mail us in at the office on brett@slater.co.nz . You can also book a free appointment online here . Make an appointment and talk with Brett about improving your financial future. It's free once you speak with Brett and odds are you'll come on board with Slaters.
